1. To recognize the conventions of ancient Greek tragedy.

2. To identify and interpret dramatic irony and tension.

3. To identify and analyze figures of speech.

4. To identify Oedipus' degree of guilt - should he be held responsible for his actions?

5. To determine what crime Oedipus is guilty of, if fate/destiny determines everything a person will do before he is born. (As is suggested by the play).
