Dear Parents:

On November 8, 2000 each 9th grade Humanities student will assume an identity of a notable person who lived between 500 A.D. and 1700 A.D. There is a great deal of preparation for their presentation which will be made to middle school students using Distance Learning. The purpose of this product is to instruct others about the notable person's life. Each student will learn research skills, technology skills, the importance of individuals in history and how to translate success of a note worthy person to his or her life.

Listed below are the requirements for this project:

Presentation board (tri-fold, 24 X 42). These tri-fold boards can be purchased from Educational Outfitters located at 600 Indian Trails Drive, Suite 104, McDowell Plaza, in Harker Heights (across from HEB), The telephone number is 690-5226. The cost of the board is approximately $5.50.

Costume for selected Notable. The background for the costume will be researched at school. The costume must be appropriate for the social class, location, occupation, and time period for the selected character.

Personality box. Items that represent the character, personality and accomplishments of the selected Notable.

Web page that includes text and graphics about the life and accomplishments of the Notable.

Research requirements include at least 50 note cards plus bibliographic cards and a progressive list of 20 questions about the Notable.

Each student will receive a list of due dates, details for each of the above products, and evaluation criteria and any other details to enable them to complete this product. This product is a Major Product grade for both History and English. The research element is a test grade for both History and English. Additionally, effective effort and time on task are taken into consideration. We have scheduled approximately 15 hours classroom production time & library time. We recommend that the student use this time to their advantage. If the student uses this time then very little outside production is needed. Please encourage your child to use all available resources and class time wisely to avoid unnecessary homework.

In addition to the packet of information given to each student, this information will also be available at the web site at http://hhhknights.com/curr/human/note/overview.htm . Should you have any questions, please call the high school at 501-0800, or email Mrs. Huckaby at angus@dashlink.com or Mrs. Franks at gf1021@aol.com .

Sincerely,

Mrs. Huckaby & Mrs. Franks
